Un homme, hanté par un cauchemar récurrent, se rend sur Mars et affronte en même temps que ses visions nocturnes un cruel et sanguinaire tyran.
En 2048. Doug Quaid, modeste ouvrier de chantier, fait toutes les nuits le même cauchemar, qui met en scène une belle Martienne, Melina. Pour faire cesser ses visions, il décide de se rendre sur la planète rouge, soumise au joug d'un dictateur. Une agence de voyages lui propose de concrétiser son désir...
